I really like your first picture. I love how the lines of, I believe guitar strings, cast shadows and creates some contrast with light. Also in the far right, where it is very focused, the different textures look really nice, with the metal against the wood where you can see the grain. I wish that more of the picture was in focus so all the strings were clear. I think the second picture might be my favorite. I love the colors and how it is monochromatic and really uses light and shadow to create interest in the picture, especially bringing in contrast. The lines lead your eye nicely to the focal point, which is also a nice shape. I also like how the foreground is nicely in focus and the background is blurred, I think this adds a kind of texture and really nice depth. The third picture has really nice texture and pattern on the large object and I like how in-focus the corner of it is. It looks nice against the wood, giving contrast with the colors. The nail that is in the middle of the wood also adds a nice point for your eye to look at. Like your first picture I wish more of it was in focus and didn’t fade to out of focus so fast, and I’m not sure what is in the bottom corner but I think it is kind of distracting and doesn’t really add or fit in with the image. I love the object that is in focus on the fourth image. It has such high contrast with the bright edges to the medium grey in the middle and then the black that the shadows create. It is also a fun pattern that the curving lines create and how in the bottom left you have the two lines going different ways but it looks nice where they meet. I think the blue object is a little distracting, maybe if it was more in focus it would be better because it does create a nice contrast with the vibrant blue agains the blacks and greys, it’s just that the blur is a bit too much. For your last image, I really like the colors and I like the red circle as the focal point. It’s cool how the reflection in the motorcycle also adds patterns. I think the wall in the back kind of takes away from what you want people to focus on, maybe if you had changed the angle slightly so you wouldn’t have seen so much of it, it would have been a bit better.
Excellent critique Colleen and many good suggestions. I'll just add a few things: The goal is everything sharp - so continue practicing controlling that by using high apertures. The woven basket: Good job getting close & good composition with the corner of the basket in a good location. It really helped to activate the negative space. (surface it's on) Colleen said the rest. Both those little objects on the right are distracting & could be eliminated. Last image: in addition to what's already been said, try getting closer.
